Villefranche-sur-Mer · Côte d'Azur
A light-filled contemporary villa above one of the Mediterranean's most beautiful bays. A heated infinity pool, a rooftop terrace with a summer kitchen, and walls of glass that open to the view, gazing across the water to Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat, minutes from the old town.
The Villa
Recently reimagined from top to bottom, Villa Roselyn sits on the green hillside between Villefranche and Cap Ferrat. Walls of glass slide away to dissolve the line between inside and out; pale stone floors and warm timber keep everything light, calm and effortless.
At its heart is a single, flowing living space, lounge, dining and a bar-style kitchen, that opens straight onto the terrace, the garden and the heated infinity pool, the bay laid out beyond. Above, a vast roof terrace, with its own summer kitchen and pizza oven, takes in what may be the finest terrace view in Villefranche, the whole coast from Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat round to the old town. Four en-suite double bedrooms sleep eight in comfort, with room to come together and corners to slip away, there's an elliptical and weights to train, and a lift from the two-car garage up to the main level.
Mornings begin with coffee as the boats cross the rade; afternoons drift by at the pool or up on the roof terrace; evenings end with long dinners under the stars, the lights of Saint-Jean glittering across the water. It is the kind of place people are reluctant to leave.

Location
Villefranche-sur-Mer is a jewel between Nice and Monaco, a deep natural harbour ringed by ochre houses, a sandy beach, and a fortified old town that has barely changed in three hundred years.
Step out of the gate and the day arranges itself: a swim before breakfast, the market for peaches and rosé, a long lunch of moules in the port, the train along the coast to Monaco, and home in time for an aperitif on the terrace.
The Rade de Villefranche is one of the deepest natural harbours in the Mediterranean, calm, swimmable, and unforgettable at sunset.
The area
Villefranche-sur-Mer sits at the centre of the Côte d'Azur's prettiest stretch, between Nice and Monaco, a few minutes from Cap-Ferrat. Here's a little of what's within easy reach.
Plage des Marinières, the calm, shallow sweep of sand in the bay, is a seven-minute walk. Beyond it lie the rocky coves of the coastal path and Paloma Beach on Cap-Ferrat. The Rade de Villefranche is one of the deepest natural harbours in the Mediterranean: sheltered, clear and swimmable from spring to autumn.
Long lunches of moules-frites on the quay, seafood at the old port's institutions, and the morning market for peaches, cheese and rosé. Michelin-starred tables wait on Cap-Ferrat and in Nice, and a wood-fired pizza is never far, though you've a summer kitchen and pizza oven of your own on the roof.
The Cap-Ferrat coastal path (Sentier du Littoral) loops past hidden coves and grand villas. Closer to home: the gardens of Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild, the 16th-century Citadelle, and Jean Cocteau's frescoed chapel in the old town.
Monaco and Monte-Carlo are 25 minutes east; the medieval village of Èze clings to the cliffs above. Nice's old town and the Promenade des Anglais are 15 minutes west, with Menton and the Italian border beyond. The coastal train makes all of it car-free.

The terrace sold it for me. Every morning I'd make a coffee and sit looking over the bay for half an hour before anyone else was awake. A really relaxed feel, and surprisingly well stocked, we barely needed anything all week.
Travelling with two children isn't always relaxing, but this was one of those rare holidays where everyone was happy. The kids practically lived in the pool while we enjoyed the terrace. Clean, comfortable and in a lovely spot.
Nothing felt like a typical rental. Good beds, a proper kitchen, comfortable sofas and incredible views. You can tell it's a place people actually enjoy spending time in. We hope to be back next year!
We've stayed in this area a few times and this was easily our favourite villa in Villefranche. Quiet location, loads of space, and the view never got old. The photos are accurate, which isn't always the case!
Living in the South of France, I'm quite picky about rentals nearby. Villa Roselyn has a warmth that's hard to describe, elegant but not pretentious, and the setting is exceptional. We drank far too much rosé by the pool.
I almost don't want to leave a review, because I'd like it to stay available! Most evenings we sat outside with a glass of wine watching the lights across the water. Exactly the break we'd hoped for, in such a special part of the world.
I've stayed in some incredible homes over the years, but there's something genuinely special about Villa Roselyn. I'd book it again in a heartbeat, and the kids adored the pool. Thank you, Pascal.
